Commercial property owners and businesses in owner-occupied commercial buildings throughout Boulder County can seek a break on the costs of installing rooftop solar photovoltaic systems, under a new program launched by the county and the city of Boulder.

The city and county, through the Partners for a Clean Environment program, have entered into a partnership with Boulder’s Namaste Solar in which that business will provide discounts on its solar installa-tions— reduced customer costs that PACE’ business sustainability analyst Collin Tomb and Namaste co-owner Cynthia Christensen said will be possible when the company makes large-batch bulk purchases of the panels and other system components for participating commercial property owners.

On top of those discounts, which Tomb said could reduce a commercial property’s installation expense by as much as 20 to 25 percent, Boulder and Boulder County are adding $140,000 in rebates, with up to $20,000 each available for an individual solar project that’ll generate up to 200 kilowatts of electricity.

“The rebate incentives provided by Boulder County and City of Boulder are aimed at improving the system economics for the small and medium projects for property owners that would otherwise not be able to invest in solar,” Tomb said.
